MARTEL’s ‘LIFE OF PI’ BIG WINNER AT OSCARS

LOS ANGELES (TIP): The film adapted from the novel written by a Saskatoon author was one of the big winners during Sunday’s Academy Awards. “Life of Pi,” written by Yann Martel, captured four Oscars, including best director for Ang Lee, as well as awards for original score, cinematography and visual effects. “Thank you movie God,” Lee said during his acceptance speech. “I need to thank Yann Martel for writing this incredible, inspiring book.” Ben Affleck’s film “Argo” won the best picture Oscar as well as awards for adapted screenplay and editing. Daniel Day-Lewis was chosen best actor for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln in “Lincoln,” while Jennifer Lawrence took home the best actress prize best actress for playing a neurotic widow in the comedy “Silver Linings Playbook.” Anne Hathaway won for best supporting actress in the movie version of hit musical “Les Miserables” and Christoph Waltz nabbed the best supporting actor Oscar for his inimitable bounty hunter in “Django Unchained.”
