Ashwarya Rai Bachchan, who is playing the character of Dalbir Kaur, Sarabjit’s sister in Omung Kumar’s film ‘Sarabjit’, recently met the real Dalbir Kaur. The movie which showcases the heart breaking story of Dalbir Kaur fighting for justice for her brother Sarabjit, who was imprisoned in Pakistan and also died there, subsequently, is currently being shot in Punjab.
Aishwarya, who is seen in a complete de-glam avatar, spent some time with Dalbir Kaur on the sets of the film. A source from the sets also informed that when the real Dalbir met the reel Dalbir, she got very emotional and thanked the actress for portraying her character with full justice. The film which is being directed by Omung Kumar, stars actor Randeep Hooda in the lead role of Sarabjit.
Sarabjit Singh was an Indian convicted of terrorism and spying by Pakistan when he accidentally crossed over to their side. He was tried and convicted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan for a series of bomb attacks in Pakistan while Sarabjit claimed he was a farmer from Punjab who had accidentally crossed the border. After a brief trial in the Lahore High Court, Sarabjit was condemned and sentenced to death in 1991, but the sentence was repeatedly postponed by the Government of Pakistan. While in prison in April 2013, Sarabjit was attacked by fellow inmates and died six days later at Jinnah Hospital, Lahore.
His sister Dalbir Kaur moved hell and high water and even approached the Presidents of India and Pakistan for her brother’s release. She even visited Sarabjit while he was imprisoned in Pakistan.
