The New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) presents its annual event with its 22nd edition highlighting the impact of Indian film and culture on the globe. The Festival is available virtually for the 3rd consecutive year. The festival celebrates independent, art house, alternate, and diaspora films with on-demand streaming offered by Shift72 from May 7-13, 2022. However, there will be a closing night film screening and awards presentation at the Village East Cinemas, 181 2nd Ave., New York, NY 10003 on May 14, 2022, starting at 4:30 p.m.
NYIFF is presented by the Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC). The Festival includes 18 feature narratives, 6 documentaries and 36 short films – a total of 60 films. Key highlights from the NYIFF celebrates alternative, independent cinema from the global Indian community and brings this rich collection of films to the New York audience. “We look forward to sparking a resonating dialogue about the ongoing impact of Indian culture on the world on the 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence,” said Dr. Nirmal Mattoo, IAAC Chairman.
Randhir Jaiswal, Consul General of India, New York, said at a recent pre-Festival launch held at the Consulate General of India, New York, “in the Indo-American Arts Council, we have a very strong supporter, a very strong builder of cultural bridges between India and the United States and when we have such platforms, such energy, and such ideas supporting you, our work as representing India, our work as cultural ambassadors becomes easier. And if that is the case, I would say you are as big a cultural ambassador of India in the United States as I am or even more so.”
“So, a big ‘thank you’ to the Indo-American Arts Council and all that you’ve been doing over the years: from film festivals to dance, to music, to art.” “I wish the Film Festival the very best. Needless to say that the Consulate is deeply proud to partner with the NYIFF 2022.”
