Inauguration of Melinda Katz

Melinda Katz was sworn in as the 19th President of the Borough of Queens. The ceremony was held Thursday, January 9, in the LeFrak Concert Hall at Queens College. Holding the Old Testament used for the swearing-in was U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley, the chairman of the Queens County Democratic Organization. The copy of the Old Testament they used had been given to Katz’s late father David (the founder of the Queens Symphony Orchestra) by Frank O’Connor, a former Queens County District Attorney.
