Ways to get relief from arthritis pain

Arthritis is a disease related to the joints. This includes pain, swelling or stiffness. Although arthritis occurs in the older population above the age of 50, this disease is now being experienced by people in their 30s as well. Since it is a broad term, arthritis is of two types. The first one relates to inflammation like rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and lupus, which are degenerative. The second type is osteoarthritis, which is a common type of arthritis, affecting millions of people across the world.

Here are ways you can reduce arthritis pain:

DIAGNOSIS

Get yourself diagnosed immediately when you have symptoms. “You have to understand that the treatment of each type of arthritis is different. Each individual would also have different kinds of medicine,” added Dr Mendiratta, Senior Consultant-Rheumatology, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram.

STOP USING PAINKILLERS

Do not use too many painkillers as it affects the kidneys, warned Dr Mendiratta. Over-the-counter pills should be used to the bare minimum. “Biological injections are being used now for arthritis. This is an advanced treatment to help the joints from getting bent. The treatment should be done within 6 months of diagnosis,” he said.

CREATE AWARENESS

The best way to avoid this disease is to create awareness. “Get yourself diagnosed as soon as possible if you see the symptoms. This is a reversible disease and therefore, people can feel better if they get the right treatment at the right time,” Dr Mendiratta said.

NO AYURVEDIC PRACTICES

He also suggested that one should avoid ayurvedic solutions for joint pain.          Source: India Today
