2002       59 people died due to fire in train Sabarmati Express in Godhra. Due to these deaths communal violence spread in Gujarat.

1931       Revolutionary and freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad shot himself in 1931 to avoid arrest in an encounter with the British police at Alfred Park, Allahabad.

2009       Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee handed over the succession of his Lok Sabha seat to senior party leader Lal G. Tandon.

1983       Mary Kom was born to make the country proud by winning medals in the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

1928       In 1928, Indian scientist CV Raman  presented his research on diffraction of light to the world.

2009       In 2009, President Pratibha Patil announced Chawla to be the next Chief Election Commissioner.

2010       Former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh made an extradition treaty between the two countries during his visit to Saudi Arabia on 1 March 2010. With this, 10 signed in many fields including sci-tech and business.

2010       India beat Pakistan in the first match of the Hockey World Cup on 1 March 2010. India defeated Pakistan 4–1 in this match.
