Mulling data, renewable energy corridors with India, says Singapore Prez

New Felhi (TIP)- Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on Thursday, January 16, announced that India and Singapore are exploring the creation of a data corridor between Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) and Singapore. The proposed corridor aims to facilitate the secure and trusted exchange of data between financial institutions in both countries.
Speaking to mediapersons at Rashtrapati Bhavan, alongside President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shanmugaratnam said, “We are exploring the possibility of a data corridor between GIFT City and Singapore so that our financial institutions can exchange data on a safe and trusted basis.”
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to establish a renewable energy corridor between India and Singapore, expressing optimism about the deepening partnership between the two nations. “We are natural partners,” he remarked. Shanmugaratnam emphasised the Indian Government’s focus on the eastern states. Recalling his earlier visit to Assam at the suggestion of Prime Minister Modi, he said, “We are doing some things in Assam.”
During his current state visit, he plans to visit Odisha, which he described as a state of special significance among the Eastern states. “India has high ambition for Odisha, and indeed it holds great promise,” he noted.
Earlier, President Murmu held extensive discussions with Shanmugaratnam. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the talks focused on avenues to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Singapore.
Meanwhile, Murmu and Shanmugaratnam jointly unveiled a commemorative logo to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore. The logo features elements symbolising the deep ties between the two nations, including colours from the Indian and Singaporean national flags, the lotus (India’s national flower) and the orchid (Singapore’s national flower).
It also prominently displays the number 60, celebrating the milestone anniversary. The logo carries the text: ‘India Singapore 60 years of diplomatic relations.’ According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the design reflects the enduring partnership and shared aspirations of the two countries.
