NEW DELHI /NEW YORK (TIP): New Delhi/New York: Aman Kumar Sharma, Secretary-General of the Association of Traditional Sports and Games, India, has been invited to attend a high-profile United Nations event on sports security, representing India and the International Council of Traditional Sports and Games (ICTSG).

The event, “Securing the Legacy: Debriefing from Paris 2024 for Future Major Sporting Events,” will be hosted by the United Nations Office of Counterterrorism (UNOCT) on March 5, 2025, in a hybrid format at Conference Room 1, United Nations Headquarters, New York. It is being organized in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations as part of UNOCT’s Global Programme on the Security of Major Sporting Events and Promotion of Sport as a Tool to Prevent Violent Extremism.

Aman Kumar Sharma, a former member of UNESCO’s Ad Hoc Advisory Committee on Traditional Sports & Games (2017–2020), will contribute to discussions on the security challenges faced by major sporting events. With the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games as a case study, the debriefing will focus on best practices, innovative security technologies, human rights protections, and gender inclusion in security management.

The event will also mark the fifth anniversary of UNOCT’s Global Sports Programme, which reflects progress made in safeguarding sporting events and using sports as a tool for social cohesion and resilience against violent extremism.

Sharma’s participation underscores India’s commitment to the preservation of traditional sports while actively engaging in global discussions on sports security and inclusivity. His presence at the UN forum is expected to enhance India’s role in shaping future strategies for securing major sporting events worldwide.
