NEW ROCHELLE, NY (TIP): Amidst the mixed feelings within our community and country, a radiant celebration of Diwali took place at the Mamaroneck Library on November 9. Community members from Rye, Larchmont, New Rochelle, Harrison, and Mamaroneck gathered to honor this significant occasion for the Hindu community. Organized by Sonal Seth and Terry Numa, this vibrant event brought families together to connect through the thread of diversity.

U.S. Representative-Elect George Latimer delivered inspiring opening remarks on cultural diversity and community spirit. Shree Seth and Samara Karkara met with Latimer to discuss their initiatives for advancing community engagement.
The event also highlighted shared cultural practices, with participants exchanging insights about the Jewish use of light during Hanukkah, Latin traditions of Día de los Muertos with marigolds and candles, and Christian customs of lighting candles.

For seven years, Sonal Patel-Sheth and Terry Numa have collaborated with a passionate desire to unite the community. This year’s celebration invited attendees to immerse themselves in the rich traditions of Diwali, featuring diya painting, henna tattoos, and a sari-wearing demonstration. Many dressed in traditional Indian attire, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
