“Threads of Sustainability” Focused on The Artisanal Approach to Fashion

NEW YORK CITY (TIP): Asia Society, Fempowerment Foundation and Gingerlu organized on Thursday, September 5, a discussion -“Threads of Sustainability :Fashion Ethics and the Environment”- about role of Indian textiles , sustainability and artisans in the world of Global Fashion.

Speakers included Carmen Artigas, Climate-positive fashion consultant and biocultural designer, Sandy Dalal, Creative + Management Consultant, Entrepreneur, Investor and Designer, and Ajay Shrivastav, Creative Director, Gingerblu; Co-founder, Fempowerment Foundation.

Mr. Shrivastav told The Indian Panorama that the aim of organizing the event was “to bring together influential voices and to raise awareness and support for our cause to uplift women and lead them towards financial independence while supporting and preserving our arts and culture”

The discussion was followed by a Fashion show displaying collection from Gingerblu, Betsey Johnson , Anna Sui , Marchesa , Krishna Mehta, to name a few t international designers, who have been working with Indian artisans which was showcased along with a display of textiles.

Mr. Shrivastav explained that “Gingerblu is a hand-woven collection for the global urban women and men by artisans in India and stitched by women trained in our centers”.

“Fempowerment Foundation”, Mr. Shrivastav said “is an organization of global priorities focused on outcome of social impact, sustainability, and environmental conservation, operationalized by the empowerment of socioeconomically disadvantaged populations”.
