NEW YORK (TIP): A five-year-old girl was shot in front of her Bronx apartment as she returned home with her family early Sunday, November 25, police and witnesses said. A bullet hit the little girl, identified by her family as Haley Dominguez, around 1 a.m., relatives and police said. “I don’t know why this happened,” said her distraught father, Jonathan Dominguez. “She’s going to be okay, thank God.”
At the time of the shooting, Haley, her mother and older brother were returning from a baby shower and about to go inside the family’s apartment building on Hughes Avenue in East Tremont. Both motive and target of the shooting were unclear. Haley was rushed to nearby St. Barnabas Hospital and later moved to Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in Washington Heights where she was in stable condition Sunday morning. She is expected to make a full recovery.
A neighbor who knows the family said he saw them coming home and heard the shots but did not see the gunman. “They were coming from the party, the shower,” said Jose Gonzalez, 47. “They were coming out of the taxi and a guy was shooting and the little girl was hit… I heard two shots and I stayed inside, I didn’t see who did the shooting.”
