GUATEMALA CITY (TIP): The Embassy of India in Guatemala celebrated the 76th Republic Day with grandeur and patriotic fervor at its chancery premises on 26 January 2025. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including Ministers, diplomats, government officials, dignitaries, business leaders, media representatives, members of the Indian community, and friends of India from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.

The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the Indian national flag by Ambassador Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, followed by the singing of the national anthem. The Ambassador then addressed the gathering, highlighting India’s remarkable progress in various sectors, its growing global partnerships, and the strengthening ties between India and the Central American region.

In his speech, Ambassador Mohapatra underscored India’s technological advancements, particularly in 5G technology, digital transformation, and the role of Indian companies in shaping the global tech landscape. He also emphasized the Embassy’s efforts in fostering business and investment opportunities in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, particularly in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, infrastructure, and IT. He further elaborated on India’s commitment to South-South cooperation and developmental partnerships, showcasing India’s support for capacity-building programs, including the ITEC initiative. The Ambassador reaffirmed India’s dedication to strengthening diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties with the region. He highlighted that the Embassy’s initiatives in promoting trade and investment between India and Central America have yielded significant progress. The successful organization of business seminars, BSMs, and collaborations with trade bodies have facilitated increased trade in pharmaceuticals, textiles, automotive components, and technology-driven sectors. Ambassador Mohapatra also mentioned India’s growing involvement in renewable energy projects in the region, including waste-to-energy conversion initiatives.

Indian community members showcased vibrant cultural performances at the 76th Republic Day celebrations, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of India.

A key highlight of the event was the vibrant cultural program, reflecting the rich heritage and traditions of India. The cultural performances included Dance Performance by Natraj Dance Group (Guatemala City) with a captivating presentation of classical and folk Indian dances, mesmerizing the audience with intricate moves and vibrant costumes. Enthusiastic participation from the Indian diaspora showcased soulful performances of Bollywood melodies and classical compositions. A series of patriotic songs were performed, invoking a deep sense of pride and unity among the attendees.

Certificates were awarded to the winners of the Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz during the 76th Republic Day celebrations.

The Embassy recognized and awarded the top fifty winners of the Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz, a prestigious competition aimed at strengthening knowledge about India’s culture, history, and achievements. Participants from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador took part in this initiative, displaying a remarkable understanding of India’s rich heritage. Prizes were distributed to the winners by the Ambassador, acknowledging their enthusiasm and interest in India. This initiative not only engaged the younger generation but also fostered stronger cultural bonds between India and the region. The celebration concluded with a grand reception, providing a platform for diplomatic and business interactions. Guests had the opportunity to network, discuss future collaborations, and enjoy a specially curated selection of Indian cuisine.
