Embassy of India in Guatemala hosts Buyers-Sellers Meeting on Indian Handicrafts and Home Decorative Items

GUATEMALA CITY (TIP): The Embassy of India in Guatemala, in collaboration with Invest India, successfully organized a Buyers-Sellers Meet on October 23, 2024. The event aimed to promote the export of Indian handicrafts and home decorative items and foster meaningful business connections between Indian and Guatemalan companies. The meet witnessed active participation from approximately 50 Guatemalan companies who attended in person, while 25 Indian companies joined virtually to present their products and explore business opportunities.

Invest India, the national investment promotion and facilitation agency, played a significant role in organizing this BSM. Known for driving investment initiatives and facilitating trade, Invest India is a key partner for the promotion of Indian exports. Its involvement in the event was instrumental in ensuring a wide reach and facilitating connections between Indian exporters and international buyers. In particular, Invest India has been actively promoting the ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) initiative, which aims to boost the global presence of unique and traditional Indian products, including handicrafts. The organization’s efforts in championing ODOP items have significantly contributed to the international recognition of India’s diverse cultural products.

The Guatemalan market holds substantial potential for Indian artisans and exporters. With a strong local appreciation for cultural products and decorative items, Guatemala’s market is receptive to unique, handcrafted items that tell a story. The country’s rich ancient Mayan heritage resonates well with Indian artisans’ traditional craftsmanship, making it an ideal destination for introducing Indian handicrafts and home decor. The buyers-sellers meet provided an excellent platform to tap into this demand, fostering trade ties that can bring mutual cultural enrichment and economic growth.
