ICCR SPONSORED SANKALP ODISHI DANCE GROUP CAPTIVATES AUDIENCES IN GUATEMALA, HONDURAS AND EL SALVADOR

GUATEMALA CITY (TIP): The Odishi Dance troupe ‘SANKALP’ sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and led by Mrs. Kasturi Pattanaik, pioneering Odissi dance exponent; embarked on a captivating journey across Central America, showcasing the enchanting Odishi dance form. Their performances were held at various prestigious venues, each carrying its own cultural significance and contributing to the strengthening of cultural ties between India and the Central American countries.

Captivating performance by Sankalp Odishi dance group at Manuel Bonilla National Theatre in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

On 26th June 2023, the troupe graced the Manuel Bonilla National Theatre in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, mesmerizing an audience of 300 individuals. The National Theatre, known for its architectural grandeur, provided a magnificent backdrop for the performers to showcase the intricacies and beauty of Odishi dance. This cultural exchange fostered a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indian art and traditions among the Honduran audience.

Moving on to 27th June 2023, the San Salvador National Theatre in El Salvador became a hub of cultural celebration as 400 attendees eagerly witnessed the grace and elegance of Odishi dance. The National Theatre holds immense cultural significance in El Salvador, serving as a symbol of artistic expression and unity. Through this performance, the troupe left a lasting impression on the Salvadoran audience, promoting cultural exchange and mutual admiration.

Continuing their journey, the Odishi Dance troupe captivated an audience of 250 at the Santa Ana National Theatre in Santa Ana, El Salvador, on 28th June 2023. The historical and cultural importance of this theatre added an extra layer of significance to the performance, further fostering the appreciation of Indian dance and cultural traditions.

On 29th June 2023, the Theatre Francisco Gavidia in San Miguel, El Salvador, witnessed a delightful fusion of Odishi dance and Salvadoran cultural ambiance. With an audience of 180, this intimate venue provided a unique setting for cultural exchange, emphasizing the universality of art and the power of dance in transcending cultural boundaries.

Performing in Patzún, Guatemala.

Patzun Municipal Theatre in Patzun City, Guatemala, became the stage for a grand celebration of Indian culture on 30th June 2023. With a staggering attendance of 1800 participants, the theatre radiated with the energy and enthusiasm of the Guatemalan audience. The performance at this iconic venue showcased the profound impact of cultural diplomacy and the ability of art to bridge continents.

At the First Military Police Brigade of Guatemala “Guardia de Honor”. The graceful and mystic movements of this dance troupe surprised everyone.

The Odishi Dance troupe’s journey continued to the Military Brigade in Zone 10, Guatemala City on 1st July 2023. This special performance was attended by 700 military personnel.

Sankalp artists gave a scintillating performance at the Theater of Quetzaltenango in Guatemala.

On 2nd July 2023, the Quetzaltenango Municipal Theatre in Xela City, Guatemala witnessed a captivating performance by the Odishi Dance troupe. The theatre, known for its cultural significance became a platform for cultural exchange, attracting an audience of 500 individuals. The dance performance highlighted the shared cultural heritage and the importance of preserving and promoting diverse art forms.

The amazing Sankalp Odishi Dance Group had their eighth and final performance in zone 21, Guatemala City. During the 8 days the group exhibited the beauty, charm and elegance of the Indian Culture through their exquisite dance performances. H.E. Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, India’s Ambassador to Guatemala spoke on the occasion.

Concluding their visit on 3rd July 2023, the Odishi Dance troupe enthralled 500 participants at Parque de la Paz in Zona 21, Guatemala City. This open-air venue allowed the performance to reach a wider audience, spreading the joy and beauty of Odishi dance to the local Guatemalan community.

Besides Mrs. Kasturi Pattanaik, SANKALP GROUP comprised of the young talented Odishi Dancers; Bijaya Laxmi Ojha, Anita Raut, Sunita Biswal, Sushree Sangita Nayak, Manikarnika, Shubhashree Pradhan, and Ankita Jena. The Group was assisted by Mamta from the ICCR. Under the esteemed leadership of H.E. Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador of India to Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras; the embassy staff elevated the cultural performances with their superb organizational help and professional guidance.

Throughout their journey, the Odishi Dance troupe sponsored by the ICCR left an indelible mark on each venue, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of India and fostering cultural understanding and appreciation. The performances not only celebrated the art of Odishi dance but also served as a powerful medium to strengthen the cultural ties between India and Central America. The enthusiasm and warmth displayed by the local communities in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador further emphasized the profound impact of cultural exchange and the appreciation for the rich art forms of Odishi dance. The successful visit of the Odishi Dance troupe not only strengthened the cultural ties between India and the Central American region but also showcased the power of dance in fostering cross-cultural understanding and promoting harmony.
