Indian Americans get set to get their first American Idol in Sonika Vaid as she makes into TOP 10

Feb 24: Indian-American community has pinned all their hopes with Sonika Vaid who might become the first Indian-American to become the American Idol in this final season.

Fourteen contestants had remained headed into Thursday night’s live episode. Four were eliminated; Vaid was one of the 10 who advanced.

Vaid’s strong performance of “I Surrender” by Celine Dion this week was her ticket to the next round.

“The way your voice sits in the music is so out of this world,” judge Jennifer Lopez said, adding Vaid has a “voice from God.”

Vaid’s performance also drew raves, including from celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay:

Vaid bested thousands of applicants to compete on the 15th season of the Fox singing competition for celeb judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr.

The 20-year-old Vaid is an Indian-American whose parents came to the United States as kids. She is a summer resident of Martha’s Vineyard, MA, and a 2013 graduate of Weston High School, Weston, MA.
