Indian-origin man killed after jumping in front of train in US

NEW YORK (TIP): A 48-year-old Indian-origin man has been killed after he allegedly jumped in front of a train at a railway station in New York’s Hartsdale town.

The victim identified as Rakesh Bali, a Scarsdale resident, died from blunt force injuries after jumping in front of the train at the Hartsdale Metro-North station, the Westchester County Medical Examiner’s office said.

Bali was hit by the train around 4:04 pm on Wednesday, June 10, as it was traveling southbound from North White Plains to Grand Central Terminal, The Journal News quoted Timothy Denmark, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) police Deputy Inspector, as saying.

The train that struck Bali was not carrying any passengers at the time, said Meredith Daniels, an MTA spokesperson.

The incident occurred at the station’s platform, Daniels said.

She said that it appeared the man leaped in front of the train. Police are investigating the case.
