Mandolin Shrinivas to perform in NJ May 5

EDISON, NJ (TIP): The innovative mandolin maestro U.Shrinivas with his amazingly talented brother U.Rajesh will be performing live in concert on May 5 in Edison, NJ. Shrinivas is well known for his niche in Indian instrumental music. U.Shrinivas has been captivating audiences for more than the last thirty years. He gave his first public performance in 1978 at the age of nine. He was soon thereafter hailed as child mandolin prodigy, and went on to perform all across India and in several countries around the world. At the West Berlin Jazz Festival Shrinivas was privileged to give a repeat performance of his mandolin at the request of the audience to a standing ovation, which was telecast live by German TV. Shrinivas performs traditional Carnatic Music, but his innovative approach to this classical art form creates an original style-for which he is recognized across the globe.

Shrinivas has revived and raised the mandolin, an unknown instrument in carnatic music and given it a respectable status. Shrinivas has performed with western musicians such as John McLaughlin, Michael Brook, Trey Gunn, and Nigel Kennedy as well as with Indian Classical musicians such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Vikku Vinaykram, Sivamani to name a few. Shrinivas is a part of the music group “Remember Shakti” which combines elements of traditional Indian music with elements of Jazz. The brothers Shrinivas and Rajesh will be accompanied by Madirimangalam Swaminathan on Mridangam and Trichy Murali on Ghatam on May 5, 4:00 p.m at J.P Stevens High School, 855 Grove Avenue, Edison, NJ 08820
