Metropolitan Museum of Art celebrates Diwali

NEW YORK CITY (TIP): The Metropolitan Museum of Art celebrated Diwali, the Indian “Festival of Lights” on Sunday, November 2. More than 800 people gathered in The Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium for the performances, hosted by the Museum’s Multicultural Audience Development Initiative with special thanks to Chairman, Lal Motwani.

The story of Diwali, in which lights or lamps signify the victory of good over evil within every human being, was told through dance by the East-West School of Dance. Columbia Raas dancers and Miss India New York 2013 Prachi Modi also performed during the event. The story of Ramayana was presented in a ballet form. Film maker Tirlok Malik was outstanding in his character as Bharat. Attendees included Bhagwant Bishnoi, Ambassador/Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations
