WASHINGTON (TIP): India born International Monetary Fund Chief Economist Gita Gopinath, who was conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2019 in the category of Academics, finally accepted the award in the US. As she was not able to receive the award in India because of her busy schedule with IMF, the award was presented to her May 9 at the Embassy of India, Washington D.C.
India’s Ambassador to the US Harsh V Shringla presented the prestigious Award to Ms Gita Gopinath. Several dignitaries, including previous recipients of the PBSA, ED IMF, other IMF officials, family and friends of Ms Gita Gopinath, participated in the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Shringla congratulated Ms Gopinathan on being awarded the PBSA and hailed the achievements of Indian diaspora in various fields in USA as also its contribution in fostering India-US ties. Ms Gita Gopinath expressed her gratitude to Government of India for considering her for the esteemed award.
