Stop making these makeup mistakes

We have all been there – forgotten to blend our eyeshadow correctly or used the wrong contour shade. Makeup beginners know what we are talking about. There are a few of these things that might be making you look older. We list down some dos and don’ts to ease the learning curve for you.

Foundation

Moisturise and use primer before application and match the foundation to your overall body tone,  not just the skin on your face.

Concealer

Use a concealer that is one or two shades lighter than your foundation, not your skin. Do not conceal under-eye circles without using a corrector first.

Powder

Set the foundation with translucent setting powder and not powder foundation or compact.

Contour

Use a taupe matte bronzer for a natural-looking contour instead of a warm-toned bronzer.

Highlight

Highlight the high points of your face i.e. cheekbones, nose and cupid’s bow, but steer clear of the apples of your cheeks, especially if you have large pores.

Blush

Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards, not below the apples.

Brows

Use a product that is a shade or two darker than your natural hair colour, but steer clear of black brow products altogether for that natural brow.

Eyes

Always prime eyelids for eyeshadow application, and use a warm-toned crease colour instead of a shimmery one.

Eyeliner

Use a pencil or gel eyeliner for precision and if you are going in for a cat eye, blend the eyeliner in for a subtle lift. Always blend eyeliner on the lower lashline.

Lashes

Curl the lashes with a heated curler before mascara application. If you are going for falsies, pick the ones with a thinner band.

Lip Liner

Outline your lips using small strokes instead of dragging the liner across.
