NEW YORK CITY (TIP): The Consulate General of Indiain association with the Tagore Society of New York organized an event at the Consulate to celebrate the 155th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on Saturday, May 07, 2016. The event was attended by a large number of admirers of Rabindranath Tagore who is held in high esteem and who influenced the world in a unique way with his philosophy, music, writings and personality.Bengalis, in particular, see in him one of the greatest sons of India.
Singing of Indian national anthem composed by the great Rabindranath Tagore wasfollowed by a presentation of Tagore songs by members of Tagore Society of New York.
Ambassador Riva Ganguly Das, Consul General of India in New York recollected some of her personal involvements surrounding Tagore during her postings as a diplomat in various countries and noted how Tagore’s ideology was recognized and the affection people have for him around the world. The programalso featured ‘Glimpses of RabindraSangeet’, a presentation by members of Tagore Society.
The program, compered by Ms. Renee Lobo, community activist and TV journalist and New York City Commission on Human Rights, had a variety of singers who recreated the music of Tagore to the joy of the gathering, Bengali community, in particular. It was a memorable evening with Tagore.
