Blast at a Russian explosives plant kills six, injures two

MOSCOW (TIP): A blast at a Russian explosives plant on July 7 killed six people and injured two more, emergency officials said. The explosion occurred as workers were dismantling equipment at one of the workshops of the Promsintez plant in Russia‘s Samara region, some 800 kilometers (500 miles) southeast of Moscow, Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported, citing emergency officials. The blast didn’t start a fire, the report said. Promsintez is one of the main producers of industrial explosives in Russia. It is located in the town of Chapayevsk in the Samara region. (AP)
Canada to stop advertising on Facebook, Instagram after Meta blocks news
OTTAWA (TIP): Canada’s government said July 5 it would stop advertising on Facebook and Instagram, in response to Meta’s decision to block access to news content on their social platforms as part of a temporary test. Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez announced Prime Minister Justin Trudeau‘s government’s decision at a news conference. Canada’s move is the latest episode in a dispute that started after Trudeau’s administration proposed a bill that would require technology companies to pay publishers for linking to or otherwise repurposing their content online.(AP)
